Salut! đ 7:00am ers (or whenever youâre reading this!)
Itâs always a big week, so letâs get right into it. Dollhairs & Sense (dollars & cents!) is going to look like this:
đBrief summary of whatâs happened this week
đPoint of interest for the week (if applicable)
đStudent questions for the week (probably a question youâve wanted to ask yourself)

đThis week, in summary
Happy Fri-yay! Short and sweet - kicking off 2024, this week has been a good one đItâs been all about planning and preparing for this year.
âď¸ next week is our first travel for the year. Iâll be jumping on a plane down to Melbourne to deliver our Entrepreneur Program to Year 9 students (think start-up, making a business and pitching for money đ°) to start the week on Monday.
đPOI (Point of Interest)
You might have heard on the news, radio or somewhere else something about inflation. Good news - Australiaâs inflation fell from 5.4% in the September quarter to 4.1% in the December quarter.
Also next Tuesday 6th February, something big is happening? Any guesses?
Send me your guess here! Weâll talk about it next time.
đQuestions Unlocked
đQ:
âHey, I really want to get a job but not sure where is best to apply. Also what do I need to have so Iâm ready?â

How exciting! Itâs great to hear you want to go out and get a job. Thereâs so many benefits to getting a casual job and the best part is you get paid to do it. Youâll meet new people, learn new skills and have to be organised.
Where is best to apply?
If there is a shop or place near home that you would love to work, go in person, ask to speak to the manager and hand in your cover letter and resume (more on this in a second). If 50 people apply, if they can put your face to a name on an application then youâre already ahead of many people!
If there isnât anywhere specific you want to work, my recommendation is to apply to as many places as possible and hopefully you get a few interviews and job offers so you can take your pick of the best place.
What do you need:
Cover Letter (most people donât apply with a cover letter so if you add one youâll stand out from the crowd)
Resume
Bank Account (so you can get paid wooooo! đ¤)
TFN (Tax File Number - you apply for this for free at the Post Office OR if you have a Australian passport you can now do it online)
Want me to answer your question? Thereâs no such thing as a dumb question and if you want to ask it other people probably do too! Send it to me now here đ¤Š

Simple and to the point for Money Task #1:
đ Review your Pay slip
Fun fact: By law, if your are employed in Australia your employer must provide you with a pay slip.
If you have a job (which Iâm sure many of you do), check your pay slip from last week! Why? January 26th is a national public holiday which means if you worked last Friday you should have been paid double time (x2.0) or double time and a half (x2.5)!
Whilst your checking your pay slip, also check for:
Hours - make sure youâve been paid for the correct amount of hours which you have worked
Pay Amount - the amount that it says youâve been paid on your pay slip matches your bank account
Everything else looks correct!
Make it a habit to check your pay slip every time you get paid. Unfortunately, many many many students I work with are getting ripped off đ¤ (ie. not the right hours, no weekend penalty rates, pay slip doesnât match what was paid into their bank account) so please check!!! đđž
